A serious accident occurred in Berlin-Biesdorf when a tram collided with a pedestrian, resulting in critical injuries.

The incident took place on Saturday evening as a 68-year-old man attempted to cross the Allee der Kosmonauten near a tram stop. According to police reports, the individual failed to notice the approaching tram from his left, operated by line M8.

The 36-year-old tram driver reacted by initiating an emergency stop, but was unable to avert the impending collision. The tram impacted the pedestrian, propelling him several meters into the air before landing on the platform.

Immediate assistance was provided by a bystander until emergency services arrived. The injured man was transported to a hospital, where he is being treated for severe head and torso injuries, which have been classified as life-threatening.

The tram driver, although unharmed physically, was taken to a medical facility due to the psychological impact of the event. The tram services for both lines M8 and M18 were suspended for approximately four hours following the accident.

This incident raises concerns regarding pedestrian safety in areas with high tram traffic, highlighting the importance of vigilance when navigating busy streets.
