Weather conditions across Berlin and Brandenburg are set to become volatile following a recent tornado that caused extensive damage in Fürstenwalde. Meteorological forecasts indicate that after a calm and sunny start, the risk of showers and thunderstorms will increase throughout the afternoon and evening, potentially bringing hail and intense rainfall to the region.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the likelihood of thunderstorms is particularly elevated in the northern areas of Berlin and Brandenburg. These storms may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, hail, and heavy downpours. The day will begin with minimal cloud cover and pleasant weather, but clouds are expected to form rapidly as the day progresses, resulting in a shift toward more unsettled conditions. Winds are anticipated to remain light, predominantly from the southwest, with temperatures ranging between 23 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Nighttime conditions leading into Friday are forecast to be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping to between 14 and 12 degrees Celsius. Friday itself is predicted to bring a mix of sunshine and clouds, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, accompanied by light westerly winds. By Friday night into Saturday, the weather is expected to vary between clear and partly cloudy skies, with isolated short showers possible and overnight lows between 13 and 11 degrees Celsius.
The increased attention on regional weather comes after a tornado swept through Fürstenwalde, situated southeast of Berlin, causing significant destruction. Numerous trees were uprooted, and at least one roof was torn off a building. Local authorities reported that several individuals sustained injuries during the storm. The full extent of the tornado's strength is still being assessed. Initial damage assessments suggest that wind speeds likely reached around 150 kilometers per hour, corresponding to at least an IF1 rating on the International Fujita Scale.
In the aftermath of the tornado, emergency services responded to disrupted infrastructure and property damage, working to clear debris and restore safety to affected neighborhoods. The event has heightened awareness of severe weather risks in the region, as authorities continue to monitor evolving meteorological patterns and advise the public to remain alert for further weather warnings.
Elsewhere in Germany, severe storms have also led to damage, including incidents where trees have fallen and structural damage has occurred. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official weather updates and to exercise caution during periods of heightened storm activity, particularly in areas recently affected by extreme weather events.
As weather conditions remain changeable, the German Weather Service continues to provide regular updates and recommendations to ensure public safety. Individuals are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, and heed official warnings as the region moves through this period of increased meteorological instability.
