Train Services Disrupted at Kiel Central Station Due to Damaged Overhead Line

Wed 12th Feb, 2025

All train services have come to a halt at Kiel Central Station in Schleswig-Holstein due to essential repair work prompted by a damaged overhead line. Authorities have announced that the station will remain closed until approximately 4 PM, causing significant disruptions for commuters and travelers alike.

The incident occurred when a train with an extended pantograph entered a section of track that lacked an operational overhead line, leading to damage in that area. As a result, no trains are currently arriving or departing from the station. Maintenance crews have been dispatched to address the issue, but travelers are advised to prepare for delays and cancellations.

Several train lines are affected by this disruption. The Regional Express line 7, which typically operates between Kiel and Neumünster, is only running between Neumünster and Flintbek. A bus replacement service is being provided for passengers traveling between Flintbek and Kiel Central Station.

Similarly, the Regional Express line 70, running between Kiel and Hamburg, has been altered, with trains commencing and concluding their journeys in Neumünster. Passengers can utilize the RE 7 service from Neumünster to Flintbek, where a bus service is also available for the final leg to Kiel Central Station.

Additionally, the erixx trains RE83 and RB84 that connect Kiel and Lübeck are currently out of service, with a bus shuttle operating without a fixed timetable in place to accommodate affected travelers.

Commuters, students, and other passengers relying on these train services are facing significant challenges as they navigate alternative transport options. The railway company has requested that all travelers check their travel connections prior to setting out, as delays of up to 90 minutes may occur.
