A severe accident occurred at the iconic Eisbach Wave in Munich's English Garden, leading to the area's temporary closure. A 33-year-old woman was involved in a critical incident while surfing late at night. The emergency services reported that she had to be rescued from the water and subsequently revived. Her condition remains serious, as stated by the firefighting department on Easter Saturday.

According to the Munich Fire Department, the woman was at the Eisbach Wave with several other surfers on Wednesday night. Around midnight, she fell from her surfboard. It is believed that her board became lodged at the bottom of the river, causing her to be trapped in the strong current.

Efforts to provide initial assistance from fellow surfers were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the water flow. Rescuers from the Munich Fire Brigade, equipped for swift water rescue, managed to extricate her with significant physical effort and brought her to the shore. There, they immediately initiated resuscitation procedures. Following these efforts, she was transported to a hospital where her condition was described as very critical.

The Eisbach Wave is a popular spot for surfers, drawing both locals and tourists, especially during the summer months. However, the fire department regularly cautions about the dangers posed by strong currents, particularly in low visibility conditions at night. In light of this recent accident, the city of Munich and the fire department have taken the precautionary measure of closing the Eisbach Wave until it can be assured that there is no ongoing risk to surfers.

The local police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the exact circumstances leading to this unfortunate event are still unclear.
