In a peculiar incident in Schmölln, Thüringen, local authorities are investigating a theft involving a traffic sign. The event unfolded on a Saturday evening when a resident captured footage of a young man allegedly stealing a 'No Entry' sign and dragging it into a nearby residential property.

The eyewitness promptly notified the police, who arrived approximately thirty minutes later. According to a police spokesperson, the suspect, a 29-year-old German national, was located at the scene.

The stolen sign, identified as 'Traffic Sign No. 267' in the German road traffic regulations, is designed to prevent vehicles from entering one-way streets incorrectly, thereby reducing the risk of accidents. The sign in question was situated at a construction site on Goetheplatz, where it was reportedly easy to detach.

Initially, law enforcement has filed charges of theft against the individual. However, they are also examining whether this act constitutes a 'dangerous interference with road traffic' under Section 315b of the German Penal Code. Investigators are currently assessing whether the suspect removed the sign from its original location.

As of now, the whereabouts of the traffic sign remain unknown. Police have stated that efforts to locate it have been unsuccessful, leaving the sign missing.

Traffic signs can be purchased by anyone, but it is illegal to place them in public spaces without proper authorization. The 'No Entry' sign is available for purchase starting at around EUR23.
