Traffic Restrictions in Berlin Due to Half Marathon Event

Sat 5th Apr, 2025

This weekend, Berlin will experience significant traffic disruptions as a result of the annual half marathon. The central streets will be closed to accommodate the event, prompting the traffic information center to advise the public on alternative transportation methods.

The closure of the Straße des 17. Juni, which runs between Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße and the Brandenburg Gate, will be in effect from Friday morning until Monday morning. Additional road closures will affect the Ebertstraße, Scheidemannstraße, John-Foster-Dulles-Allee, Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße, Heinrich-von-Gagern-Straße, Annemarie-Renger-Straße, and Paul-Löbe-Allee until midday on Monday.

On Sunday, the famous Unter den Linden boulevard will also be closed. The restrictions will commence at 7:45 AM, continuing until approximately 3:00 PM, during which vehicles will not be permitted to cross the race route unless authorized by traffic officials.

Motorists are encouraged to divert to the city's ring road and utilize the B96 highway, along with the Tiergarten tunnel and the Adenauerplatz tunnel, to navigate around the closures. The traffic information center strongly recommends public transport as a viable alternative during this busy period.

The half marathon itself will take place on Sunday, with both the starting and finishing points located on the Straße des 17. Juni. Participants, including inline skaters, wheelchair users, and handcyclists, will commence the race in staggered waves throughout the morning.
