Traffic Disruptions Continue Due to Bridge Cracks in Southwestern Berlin

Tue 11th Mar, 2025

Significant traffic disruptions persist in southwestern Berlin following the discovery of cracks in an important highway bridge near the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The local traffic administration has announced that these disruptions are expected to last for at least two weeks as investigations continue.

The Senate Department for Traffic is currently in discussions with Autobahn GmbH regarding the ongoing restrictions at the autobahn bridge located at the Charlottenburg Funkturmdreieck. A spokesperson indicated that the situation is challenging, and the extent of the damage will be clearer only after the completion of assessments expected in about two weeks.

Since the partial closure began last Thursday, traffic congestion has become a common issue, prompting significant delays for commuters. On Monday, Autobahn GmbH Nordost revealed that a full closure of the bridge may be necessary depending on the severity of the damage.

Currently, only one lane is operational in the northbound direction where the A115 connects to the A100. Drivers in the area should prepare for ongoing delays and are advised to consider alternative routes.

If a complete closure is deemed necessary, traffic will need to be redirected away from the affected area. The specifics of these detours are under discussion among transportation experts from the traffic administration and Autobahn GmbH.

Officials are urging drivers to avoid the area if possible, as the bridge typically accommodates over 200,000 vehicles daily. The authorities are committed to providing updates as the situation evolves and assessments continue.
