Tragic Losses in Gaza: Three Infants Die from Hypothermia Amidst Cold Snap

Tue 25th Feb, 2025

In a heartbreaking report from Gaza, a hospital director revealed that three infants succumbed to hypothermia during a severe cold wave. Said Saleh, head of the Asdika al-Marid hospital, reported that these tragic deaths occurred within a matter of hours.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in makeshift tents after losing their homes due to more than 15 months of conflict between the Israeli military and Hamas. The United Nations has indicated that these plastic tents provide little refuge from the harsh weather conditions, including cold, storms, and rain.

Despite a ceasefire that has been in place for over a month, the prospects for rebuilding Gaza remain bleak. Israeli officials have stated that reconstruction efforts will only commence once all Israeli hostages are released and Hamas no longer governs the territory.

Currently, temperatures in the region are unseasonably low, dropping to just above freezing at night. Infants are particularly vulnerable in such conditions, as they are unable to regulate their body temperature independently. The dire situation underscores the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and the importance of addressing the ongoing challenges faced by the residents of Gaza.
