Skoda Reports Nearly One-Third Increase in Profit

Thu 13th Mar, 2025

The Czech automotive manufacturer Skoda, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, has reported a significant profit increase of nearly 30% in the previous year, solidifying its status as a leading brand within the VW Group's mass-market segment. The operational profit for 2024 reached EUR2.3 billion, marking a robust performance in a challenging economic climate, as stated by Skoda's CEO during a press briefing in Prague.

In contrast to Skoda's positive results, the overall profitability of the Volkswagen Group saw a decline, with net earnings dropping by almost 31% during the same period. The CEO highlighted the differing economic conditions between the two entities, attributing part of Skoda's success to lower labor and energy costs in the Czech Republic.

Skoda's diverse product lineup, which includes vehicles ranging from compact cars to larger models and various fuel types such as diesel, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles, is considered a major contributor to its financial success. Recently, Volkswagen unveiled its new entry-level electric model, the ID.Every1, priced at EUR20,000. However, Skoda has confirmed that it does not plan to produce its variant of this model, emphasizing the importance of distinct brand identities and avoiding internal competition.

Instead, the company plans to extend the lifecycle of its combustion engine models, including the Fabia, Scala, and Kamiq, well into the next decade. Skoda is also exploring the integration of hybrid technology into its existing model range at its headquarters in Mlada Boleslav.

On the larger end of the market, Skoda is preparing to launch a new electric seven-seater vehicle, expected to hit the market in the latter half of 2026. The CEO pointed out the strategic targeting of a niche that was previously occupied by models like the VW Sharan or the Ford Galaxy, suggesting a potential market for family-oriented electric vehicles.

Looking ahead, Skoda aims to enhance its revenue further, with total sales for 2024 reaching approximately EUR27.8 billion, reflecting a 4.7% increase from the previous year. The company achieved a return on sales of 8.3%, with aspirations to reach 10% by the end of the decade. While there are no current plans to shift production of Volkswagen models to the more cost-effective Czech facilities, the CEO expressed the possibility of Skoda taking on additional research and development responsibilities for the entire group in the future, potentially including the design of a technology platform.
