In light of these developments, German lawmakers are advocating for the establishment of a new European intelligence framework dubbed 'Euro Eyes.' Konstantin von Notz, a member of the Green party and chair of the German Bundestag's intelligence oversight committee, emphasized the urgency of enhancing Germany's own intelligence capabilities. Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the CDU and deputy chair of the same committee, echoed these sentiments, warning that any withdrawal of U.S. intelligence support would represent a significant shift in Germany's security landscape.

Notable instances include the CIA's interception of communications from the Sauerland Group in 2007, which was plotting attacks in Germany, and alerts in 2023 regarding a potential chemical attack being planned in Castrop-Rauxel.

The proposed 'Euro Eyes' initiative, therefore, represents a proactive approach to reestablishing security frameworks that can function independently of U.S. assistance.
