Celebrating 25 Years of The Sims: Take the Nerd Quiz

Fri 7th Feb, 2025

In February 2025, Electronic Arts commemorates the 25th anniversary of the iconic life simulation game, The Sims, originally released on February 4, 2000. Developed by Maxis, the game revolutionized the gaming landscape by allowing players to create and control virtual households, marking a significant shift from the previously established SimCity franchise.

The Sims quickly gained popularity, selling over 200 million copies across its four main installments and numerous expansion packs, solidifying its status as one of the best-selling video game series of all time. However, the franchise has also faced criticism for its monetization strategies, particularly in The Sims 4, where acquiring all downloadable content can cost players several hundred euros. Despite some missteps, such as the online version that failed to capture the audience, The Sims continues to thrive and spark curiosity about future editions, including the potential for a fifth installment.

To celebrate this milestone, fans are invited to participate in a special Nerd Quiz focused on The Sims series. The quiz aims to challenge players' knowledge about the game and its history, including trivia about its development and iconic features. Participants can compete for points based on their speed in responding to questions, with a total of 200 points available across ten questions.

As part of the quiz, Anna Kalinowsky from heiseshow has prepared discussions with Dr. Volker Zota and Malte Kirchner to provide insights, despite their non-expert status on the popular life simulation. Players are encouraged to engage with the quiz and share their experiences while being mindful of spoilers for others.
