Tue 25th Feb, 2025

Hagen - A local 18-year-old is under investigation for allegedly organizing an illegal street race. On February 24, 2025, authorities issued a citation against him for his reckless driving behavior.

At approximately 8:50 PM, the individual was driving a family member's Mercedes along Herdecker Straße towards Eckeseyer Straße when he significantly exceeded the speed limit. In an attempt to evade detection by a radar speed camera, he abruptly decelerated.

The suspect reached speeds of up to 110 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, overtaking other vehicles in a dangerous manner that forced several drivers to brake abruptly to avoid collisions. Despite the police signaling for him to pull over, the teenager initially ignored their commands. He eventually came to a stop at a red traffic light at the intersection of Becheltestraße and Lenaustraße.

When questioned, the suspect refrained from commenting on the accusations related to the illegal street racing incident. However, both alcohol and drug tests returned negative results. Law enforcement officials confiscated his driver's license and smartphone and filed a formal report against him.

This incident raises concerns about the increasing prevalence of illegal racing activities on public roads, which pose significant risks to both participants and innocent bystanders. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of road safety and the severe consequences of engaging in such reckless behavior.

The police are urging witnesses and other victims of the reckless driving to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the community's role in promoting safer streets.
