Tate Brothers Depart Romania Amid Legal Controversies

Thu 27th Feb, 2025

Andrew and Tristan Tate, dual citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom, have reportedly left Romania for the United States after Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions against them. The brothers are currently facing serious allegations of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, which they have consistently denied.

According to local media sources, the Tates departed from Bucharest's Baneasa airport on a private flight to Florida. The Romanian prosecutors confirmed that they have removed the obligation for the brothers to remain in Romania, although they are still subject to other legal requirements, including regular check-ins with judicial authorities.

The decision to lift the travel ban has raised questions, especially since prosecutors did not specify who requested the change. In the days leading up to this announcement, reports suggested that U.S. officials had reached out to the Romanian government, urging them to reconsider the restrictions placed on the Tates.

Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu mentioned that the issue was discussed by U.S. special envoy Richard Grenell during the recent Munich Security Conference. The Tate brothers have been vocal supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump on various social media platforms.

The brothers, along with two Romanian women, were arrested in late 2022, accused of forming a criminal organization in both Romania and the U.K. that allegedly exploited 34 women. Following their arrest, Romanian authorities conducted raids on properties owned by the Tates in August 2024. Furthermore, a Bucharest court previously ruled against the Tates' ability to travel freely within the European Union.

Separately, a U.K. court ruled in December 2024 that British police could seize over 2 million pounds from the Tates and an unidentified woman due to tax evasion charges. U.K. authorities have characterized Andrew and Tristan Tate as "serial" tax evaders, with evidence presented in court indicating that Andrew publicly stated his refusal to pay taxes when he resided in England.
