Weather Shift: Stormy Weekend Ahead with Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain

Sat 3rd May, 2025

This weekend, residents across Germany should prepare for a significant change in weather patterns, with forecasts indicating the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), local thunderstorms are expected nationwide.

On Friday evening, temperatures in the vicinity of Heidelberg reached highs of 30 degrees Celsius. However, this warmth will give way to more turbulent conditions starting Saturday, particularly across central Germany and extending towards the Alps, where thunderstorms are likely to develop.

The DWD has issued warnings regarding the potential for severe weather, including intense downpours and the risk of large hail and strong gusts reaching up to 100 kilometers per hour, especially in eastern regions of the country.

In Baden-Württemberg, the day is expected to begin with thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour. As the day progresses, these conditions may expand, leading to heavy rainfall in various areas. Residents in Bavaria should also be on alert for isolated thunderstorms and severe weather developments starting from late morning.

While southern and central Germany will see warm temperatures ranging from 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, a cold front moving in from northern Germany will bring cooler conditions, with maximum temperatures in the north expected to fall between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius.

As night falls on Saturday, the zone of thunderstorms is predicted to shift southward, and the risk of severe weather will likely diminish. Sunday is anticipated to be quite unpredictable, with scattered showers and potential thunderstorms forecasted. The highest temperatures for the day will decrease, generally hovering between 12 and 19 degrees Celsius.
