Stefan Raab Transforms Merz Quote into Rave Anthem 'Bubatz'

Wed 19th Feb, 2025

Television host Stefan Raab has creatively repurposed a quote from Friedrich Merz, the candidate for Chancellor from the Union party, into a new Rave track titled 'Rambo Zambo.' This endeavor draws inspiration from a recent live stream where Merz was asked about the legality of 'Bubatz,' a slang term for cannabis popular among the youth. Merz's bewilderment was palpable as he questioned, 'What is Bubatz?'

In a twist of artistic interpretation, Raab announced the release of his 'campaign song' during his show, 'Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million bei Stefan Raab,' airing on RTL and available for streaming on RTL+. Raab humorously noted that he was collaborating with Merz without the latter's knowledge, emphasizing the fun and engaging nature of the project.

The track prominently features Merz's quote, blending it into a lively electronic music backdrop. In the accompanying music video, Raab reclines on a chair while delivering lines such as, 'This great stuff makes us all happy,' followed by a snippet of Merz's query, 'What is Bubatz?' The chorus includes the phrase, 'Here in the house, it's really Rambo Zambo.' This catchy and upbeat approach recalls Raab's earlier works, where he similarly adapted political quotes into musical formats.

Raab has a history of creating humorous political songs, as evidenced by his 2000 hit based on Gerhard Schröder's line, 'Ho' mir ma' ne Flasche Bier, sonst streik' ich hier,' which was set to a Polka rhythm. He has also tackled cannabis-related topics in the past, including his song 'Gebt das Hanf frei,' which made use of a statement from the late Green politician Hans-Christian Ströbele.

The recent episode featured FDP leader Christian Lindner, who was the first to witness Raab's innovative take on Merz's quote. Lindner expressed his approval of the song, acknowledging its appeal while noting that it has a stylistic quality reminiscent of earlier years.

This new musical piece not only showcases Raab's talent for blending entertainment with political commentary but also highlights the evolving nature of political discourse in Germany, especially as younger generations engage with issues like cannabis legalization in a more casual and approachable manner.
