Berlin - In a surprising announcement that some may have thought was an April Fool's joke, the Deutsche Bahn has confirmed a substantial offer for its customers. Early this morning, thousands received an email detailing a remarkable promotion aimed at Bahncard25 holders. From April 1 to April 30, 2025, these customers will enjoy the benefits typically reserved for Bahncard50 holders.
This initiative caters to approximately 3.5 million individuals who possess a Bahncard25. Under this promotion, customers will receive a 25% discount on standard Sparpreise (saver fares), while Flexpreise (flexible fares) will be discounted by 50%. This is the first time such an offer has been extended to Bahncard25 users, marking a significant milestone for the company and its patrons.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the Flexpreis option allows travelers to choose their preferred train on the day of travel for the selected route, providing greater flexibility. Additionally, Flexpreis tickets can be canceled without charge up to eight days prior to departure. The promotion also includes the City Ticket, which is automatically valid in 130 cities across Germany, and first-class travelers will benefit from complimentary seat reservations.
In response to customer frustration regarding ticket pricing, Deutsche Bahn has also announced the availability of one million additional Sparpreis tickets and various other initiatives to enhance customer experience.
For those wondering about the automatic application of the discount, Bahncard holders need only to enter their Bahncard25 details during online bookings or through the app. The system will automatically display the reduced Flexpreis, reflecting a 50% discount.
The annual fee for a Bahncard25 is currently set at EUR62.90 for second-class travel and EUR125 for first-class. A trial card, valid for four weeks, is available for EUR19.90.
