Service Resumed for Deutsche Bahn Following Suspected Sabotage Incident

Sat 15th Feb, 2025

Following a significant disruption caused by a suspected act of sabotage, the regional and long-distance train services operated by Deutsche Bahn in Berlin have returned to normal operations. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved a fire in a cable shaft and was reportedly claimed by activists in a public statement.

As of Saturday morning, the regular train schedules resumed, according to a spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn. Repairs to the damage were completed on Friday evening, allowing services to operate without major interruptions. However, one track will remain closed temporarily for cleanup activities, though this is not expected to affect the overall train services.

Prior to the restoration of normal service, various regional train lines, including RE2, RE7, RB 21, and RB 23, experienced cancellations and rerouting. The long-distance services were also impacted, particularly Eurocity trains traveling from Berlin through Frankfurt (Oder) to Poland.

This act of vandalism has drawn the attention of the authorities, with the State Protection Unit of the Berlin Criminal Investigation Department taking charge of the investigation due to the politically motivated nature of the act. The activists involved in the incident expressed their opposition to both Deutsche Bahn and Tesla, linking their actions to broader social and environmental concerns.

Despite the challenges faced, Deutsche Bahn is committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of its services. The quick restoration of train operations demonstrates the organization's resilience and dedication to minimizing disruptions in travel for its passengers. Travelers are encouraged to stay informed about their journeys and any potential updates as operations stabilize.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
