Potsdam - In a recent court ruling, Hilton Henrico G., a 38-year-old individual, was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months in prison for the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old security guard at a transitional housing facility. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, following a trial at the Potsdam District Court.

According to reports, Hilton G., who identifies as a transgender woman, was born in Cape Town in 1986. During the trial, G. chose to exercise the right to remain silent, with her defense attorney stating that she denies the charges against her.

Family members of the victim, identified as Anwar A., expressed their grief by presenting a photo of him in court. Anwar A. tragically succumbed to his injuries after being attacked.

The prosecution outlined the events leading to the incident, stating that on May 30, at approximately 3:50 AM, Hilton G. encountered the security guard, who had previously prohibited her from entering the asylum facility while carrying a knife. In a sudden act of violence, G. produced a knife and stabbed the guard twice in the chest.

Emergency responders found Anwar A. about 20 minutes after the attack, but he tragically passed away in the hospital at 6:35 AM due to severe internal bleeding caused by one of the knife wounds that had penetrated his heart. Following the incident, the accused fled to Berlin, where she was apprehended at Nollendorfplatz and has been in pre-trial detention since.

The prosecution had called for the maximum sentence, while the defense argued for an acquittal, disputing the charge of manslaughter.

It was revealed during the proceedings that Hilton G. had been required to leave Germany since May 2021 but had remained in the country due to bureaucratic delays surrounding her deportation, which were attributed to the Potsdam immigration office.

This incident has raised questions regarding the management of asylum seekers and the handling of deportation cases in Germany.
