At this year's Buchmesse, renowned author Sebastian Fitzek shared insights into two formative books that have significantly impacted his literary journey. Fitzek, a bestselling writer known for his thrilling narratives, recalled a lesser-known work by Enid Blyton that captivated his imagination as a child.

Fitzek highlighted the book titled Unterm roten Dach, which tells the story of children who pretend their parents are alive to avoid being placed in a care home after a tragic accident leaves them in a challenging situation. He recounted how this book left a lasting impression on him during his fourth-grade year at Waldgrundschule. He borrowed it repeatedly from the school library, to the point where his teacher gifted him a copy, which he still cherishes today.

However, Fitzek's ultimate favorite is Michael Ende's Die unendliche Geschichte, which he discovered a few years later. He described this book as a gateway to a world of fantasy that not only enchanted him but also ignited a desire within him to tell stories of his own. The imaginative narrative and intricate layers of the tale opened his eyes to the limitless possibilities of storytelling.

Fitzek's popularity among readers is evident as he continues to draw large crowds at literary events. At the Leipziger Buchmesse, he traditionally hosts several signings for his latest works. This year, he brought along his recent thriller, Das Kalendermädchen, which has further solidified his place as a prominent figure in contemporary fiction.

As Fitzek reflects on the books that have shaped his life, he emphasizes the power of literature to inspire, entertain, and transform lives, a sentiment that resonates strongly with his audience at the Buchmesse.
