Thu 17th Apr, 2025

Sankt Augustin - In the early hours of April 16, three luxury Audi vehicles were stolen in Sankt Augustin, with the thefts occurring from private parking spaces in the Menden district. The stolen vehicles included two Audi Q5s and one Audi Q7, which had been parked in residential areas.

The first vehicle, a gray Audi Q5 bearing the license plate SU-WO700, was parked in front of a single-family home on Auf der Mirz street. The second Audi Q5, which is white and registered as BN-SE3434, was located in front of a multi-family residence on Ernststraße. The third vehicle, a black Audi Q7, was parked at a designated spot along Fasanenweg.

The total value of the stolen vehicles is estimated to be several hundred thousand euros. Preliminary investigations suggest that the thieves employed a technique to manipulate the vehicles' keyless entry systems, allowing them to unlock and start the cars without the original keys. Notably, all original keys remain with the vehicle owners.

Around 3 AM, motorists reported encountering an unlit vehicle on the shoulder of the A3 highway near Bad Honnef-Linz. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that this vehicle was indeed the stolen Audi Q7, which has since been recovered. Unfortunately, the suspects managed to escape without being identified.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious individuals or vehicles in the Sankt Augustin-Menden area during the night of the thefts to contact the police at 02241 541-3321.

In light of this incident, the police recommend that vehicle owners disable keyless entry features and park their vehicles in locked garages overnight whenever possible. Additionally, it is advised that key fobs be stored away from exterior doors, and utilizing a metal container or aluminum foil can help shield the signals from potential thieves.
