Döllstädt, Thüringen - A significant incident occurred on Monday morning involving a regional train and a BMW, causing alarm for approximately 30 passengers. The driver of the BMW was traveling on the B 176 when he suddenly veered off the road, apparently failing to notice the approaching train, leading to a collision.
According to reports, the driver explained that he had just completed a night shift and urgently needed to relieve himself, prompting the abrupt maneuver across the tracks. Fortunately, despite the severity of the crash, no injuries were reported.
The collision resulted in the suspension of train services along the route connecting Erfurt and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, as well as a closure of the B 176, lasting until around 8:30 AM. Passengers were left waiting in freezing temperatures for approximately 90 minutes until a replacement bus arrived to continue their journeys, whether to work or leisure destinations.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future and to ensure the safety of both train and road travelers.
