Public transportation getting more expensive

Mon 12th Mar, 2012

Starting December, 11 2011, prices for public transportation will increase, announced the transportation authority of Munich (MVG - Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft). The MVG are responsible for the underground trains, bus and tram transportation and S-Bahn ticketing. They usually raise the prices around Christmas or Easter.

One way, multi-ride stamp card, and bicycle ticket prices will stay the same. This time it's the monthly, weekly or daily passes - or 'Zeitkarten' - that will increase almost 3.2%.

Other tickets that will increase in price include the Isarcard, a very popular ticket that will cost almost 1.50 Euro more per passenger, and the partner ticket will cost 10.29 Euros, rising from 9.80 Euros - a 4% increase.

Munich's Mayor Christian Ude defends the new prices. "The costs for the passengers are rising very moderately, if you compare the price to other public transport campanies in Germany. Munich has increased the costs the least."
