Berlin - A dangerous car race in the Marzahn district of Berlin sparked significant concern late at night when a driver displayed erratic behavior behind the wheel. At approximately 1 AM, law enforcement officers observed a vehicle on the corner of Märkische Allee and Poelchaustraße that was exhibiting signs of reckless driving. The driver ignored police signals to stop and accelerated towards Alt-Friedrichsfelde.
During this high-speed escape, the vehicle skidded and collided with both the central island and a parked truck at the intersection of Märkische Allee and Bentschener Weg. The driver continued to flee into the city. Near the S-Bahn station Friedrichsfelde-Ost, he attempted to turn the car around but lost control, driving over the central island and onto the tram tracks. The vehicle ultimately slid down an embankment.
Following the crash, both occupants of the car exited and fled on foot. A 17-year-old, who claimed to be a passenger, was apprehended shortly after in the vicinity. The suspected driver, a 20-year-old male, allegedly drove without a valid driver's license. The investigation is currently being handled by a specialized traffic crime unit from the police department.
