In a devastating incident that unfolded in Salzgitter, Niedersachsen, a small aircraft crashed on the premises of Salzgitter AG, resulting in the loss of two lives. The accident occurred on Sunday morning shortly after the plane took off from the Salzgitter-Drütte airfield, en route to Hildesheim.

The emergency services received an alert at approximately 9:45 AM regarding the crash. The two-engine aircraft reportedly went down just under a kilometer from the airfield, plummeting between two industrial halls into a narrow six-meter-wide gap. Following the crash, a fire broke out, prompting a rapid response from the plant's fire brigade, which deployed 18 personnel to combat the flames. Additionally, a chaplain and officials from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) were dispatched to the scene.

Initial reports indicate that the deceased are a 55-year-old pilot and a 56-year-old co-pilot, both hailing from Salzgitter. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with preliminary assessments suggesting potential engine failure shortly after takeoff. Eyewitnesses noted that the aircraft appeared to lose control before descending.

Thick black smoke was seen rising from the site of the crash at Salzgitter AG, highlighting the severity of the incident. In response to inquiries, a police spokesperson characterized the event as an accident.

Despite the tragic occurrence, production at the steel manufacturing facility has reportedly continued without major disruption. A company representative stated that only minor damage was inflicted on the production site as a result of the crash.

This incident adds to a troubling trend of aviation accidents, with recent reports of similar tragedies in other parts of the world, including a plane explosion on a railway in the USA and a fatal crash in Hangelar, NRW.
