OpenAI has commenced the rollout of its AI agent, known as Operator, across the European Union, including Germany. This innovative technology is designed to enhance user productivity by automating various tasks traditionally performed by humans.
The Operator is based on the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model, which leverages the capabilities of GPT-4o and incorporates reinforcement learning. This approach enables the model to identify successful responses and adapt its learning accordingly. Furthermore, the CUA is specifically trained to interact with graphical user interfaces, allowing it to recognize and utilize text field inputs effectively.
According to OpenAI, this marks the beginning of a future where AI not only provides information but also executes workflows independently, benefiting both businesses and individual users. The Operator has already been tested in collaboration with various companies, including Booking, Expedia, and Uber. These partnerships highlight the potential for AI to streamline processes, such as restaurant reservations and vacation planning.
In cases where sensitive information, such as payment details, is needed, the Operator will prompt users for permission before proceeding. This ensures that users retain control over their data while benefiting from the agent's capabilities. The Operator is currently available in a research preview format for individuals aged 18 and older with a Pro account in the EU, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland, and Norway. Although this preview offers limited features, it allows users to provide feedback that can help improve the agent's functionality.
The Operator presently operates under its own domain, with plans to integrate it into ChatGPT in the near future. OpenAI has published a comprehensive system card detailing the security risks associated with the Operator and the measures implemented to mitigate these risks.
