Nvidia Leads the PC Graphics Card Market Amidst Surge in Demand

Wed 3rd Sep, 2025

The PC graphics card market is experiencing a remarkable upswing, primarily driven by Nvidia, which is capturing significant market share. Recent data for the second quarter of 2025 reveals a striking 27% increase in graphics card sales compared to the previous quarter, a trend that has largely benefitted Nvidia's GeForce GPUs.

Market analysts at Jon Peddie Research (JPR) attribute this surge in demand to concerns over potential price increases, possibly due to tariffs. Additionally, sales of desktop PCs have risen by 21.6%, a notable increase during a period typically characterized by declining sales as consumers tend to save for vacations and spend more on hardware in the fourth quarter.

Despite the positive outlook for the second quarter, the year-on-year comparison paints a more complex picture. The overall sales of desktop PCs have decreased by 4.4%, a decline that occurs even as users prepare for the upcoming transition to Windows 11.

Nvidia has solidified its dominance in the market, with its GeForce graphics cards now accounting for 94% of total sales. In stark contrast, AMD's Radeon graphics cards have suffered a drastic reduction in market share, plummeting to just 6%. Meanwhile, Intel's Arc series continues to struggle, reportedly achieving a market share of 0%.

The dramatic shift in consumer preferences underscores Nvidia's strong position in the industry, fueled by its well-received product offerings and the growing demand for high-performance gaming and computational capabilities among users.

As the market evolves, it remains to be seen how AMD and Intel will respond to regain their footing in this competitive landscape. The ongoing developments in graphics technology will undoubtedly influence future market dynamics.
