The Central Council of Muslims in Germany has expressed deep concern following a recent stabbing incident involving a tourist at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. The Council emphasized that such acts of violence bear no relation to solidarity with any political cause, particularly the Palestinian issue.

In a statement, the Council highlighted that violence against innocent individuals is indefensible and contradicts the core values of the Muslim community. They urged that the legitimate rights of the Palestinians should not be conflated with antisemitism, as this only exacerbates divisions within society.

The incident reportedly involved a 19-year-old Syrian refugee who allegedly attacked a Spanish tourist with a knife, inflicting serious injuries. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the attack, with blood on his hands, near the memorial site. He is currently in custody as investigations proceed.

Authorities have indicated that there may be connections between the attack and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict. The Holocaust Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the six million Jews who perished under the Nazi regime, situated in the historic heart of Berlin.

In light of this troubling event, the Central Council of Muslims called on both Muslim and Jewish communities in Germany to unite against antisemitism and anti-Muslim racism. They stressed that Jews and Muslims should not be pitted against one another, emphasizing a shared goal of fostering a society where every individual can live freely and without fear.

The call to action comes amidst rising tensions and incidents of hate in various parts of the world, highlighting the imperative for communal solidarity in the face of violence and discrimination.
