Microsoft Releases Windows Update Preview: Fixes and New Issues with 24H2

Wed 26th Feb, 2025

Microsoft has rolled out the preview version of its upcoming Windows Update, addressing various non-security issues while also acknowledging a new problem associated with Windows 11 24H2.

The Knowledge Base entry KB5052093 details the corrections integrated into the update preview for Windows 11 24H2. Among the critical updates is the OpenSSH Secure-Shell service, which had previously failed to start, disrupting SSH connections and detailed logging functionalities. Users now can expect these services to operate as intended without requiring manual intervention.

Additionally, several minor bug fixes have been implemented. For instance, the Hyper-V Quick Create function that previously displayed an error message regarding the inability to load the Newtonsoft.Json assembly has been resolved. In Windows Server 2025, the 'Get Help' app is now operational again. The update also rectifies a potential error encountered when accessing Settings, which previously resulted in a memory reference error, and it could have been linked to the RuntimeBroker.exe.

In terms of Remote Desktop sessions, users experienced display errors or application unresponsiveness when connecting to certain PCs. Furthermore, installations on high-DPI displays encountered issues with outdated scaling methods, affecting drag-and-drop functionality and object movement.

Microsoft has outlined plans for further enhancements and corrections in the gradual rollout of this update. Upcoming improvements include adjustments ensuring that the Task Manager accurately recognizes HDDs as SSDs and the ability to share files directly from the Jump List when right-clicking on apps in the taskbar, provided these apps support Jump Lists. Additionally, users can anticipate a performance boost in the File Explorer when navigating folders containing numerous media files. The previous sluggishness observed when accessing files on cloud storage is expected to be addressed soon. There are also updates in place for applications to recognize connected scanners effectively. More detailed changes are available in the KB entry.

However, in the Windows Release Health notes, Microsoft has acknowledged a new issue with the Windows 11 24H2 update that prevents AutoCAD 2022 from opening. This problem does not affect other versions such as AutoCAD 2023, 2024, and 2025. To mitigate this, Microsoft has established a Safeguard ID, 56211213, to prevent the 24H2 update from being offered on impacted systems.
