Microsoft Removes Update Block for Windows 11 24H2 Amid Asphalt 8 Issues

Mon 24th Mar, 2025

Microsoft has lifted the restrictions that previously prevented users of the popular game Asphalt 8 from upgrading to the Windows 11 24H2 version. The company has resolved the issues that led to this block.

Since the release of the Windows 11 24H2 update, users who had Asphalt 8 (Airborne) installed on their devices were unable to access the update due to a safeguard ID aimed at mitigating compatibility issues. This safeguard was initiated because the game would freeze during gameplay or when attempts were made to close it, requiring users to restart the application to regain functionality.

Microsoft has now removed safeguard ID 52796746, which had been in place since late September 2024 when the 24H2 update was launched. Users can now search for and install the update through Windows Update without any hindrance.

Despite the resolution of this specific issue, the Windows 11 24H2 update has encountered other challenges. In February, Microsoft introduced a new safeguard ID, 56211213, which blocks the update on machines running AutoCAD 2022. However, more recent versions of AutoCAD, including 2023, 2024, and 2025, are not affected by this restriction.

Earlier in February, Microsoft had also removed several other safeguard IDs that were hindering the upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, particularly affecting specific Asus devices as well as certain games utilizing the Auto HDR feature, which have since been resolved.

As users look to upgrade their systems, IT administrators can use Windows Update for Business Reports to check if safeguard ID 52796746 has been causing issues on managed devices.
