Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old German national in Lithuania, suspected of fatally stabbing a peer in Castrop-Rauxel, North Rhine-Westphalia. The arrest concludes a five-month international search for the suspect, who had been the subject of a European arrest warrant.

The incident occurred on January 14, when a 17-year-old male, identified as Onur, suffered fatal knife wounds. Initial police investigations focused on the teenage girl, who was released after questioning, as she claimed the attack was an act of self-defense against alleged sexual assault. However, subsequent forensic analysis and digital evidence contradicted her account. Investigators recovered communications from a confiscated mobile device, revealing information that led authorities to believe the act was premeditated and lacked justification.

As the inquiry progressed, the suspect disappeared, prompting an extensive search. The Dortmund public prosecutor's office issued a public appeal, circulating photographs of the suspect and urging the public to provide information. In response, the victim's family offered a reward of EUR20,000 for leads contributing to her apprehension. This appeal reportedly generated new information, including a tip suggesting that the suspect had fled to Lithuania.

Law enforcement agencies from North Rhine-Westphalia, in collaboration with the Federal Criminal Police Office and Lithuanian authorities, coordinated efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect. The arrest took place in Lithuania on a Friday, following detailed investigative work and the cross-border execution of the European arrest warrant. Currently, the teenager is being held in Lithuania, pending potential extradition to Germany. If she consents to extradition, she could be returned swiftly; otherwise, Lithuanian judicial authorities will determine the next steps regarding her transfer.

Throughout the investigation, police continued to gather evidence at the crime scene and pursued all leads. The case attracted substantial public attention due to the length of the search and the involvement of two teenagers. The victim, described as well-liked with an interest in automobiles, was commemorated by his family, who cooperated with law enforcement and the media to aid the investigation.

The accused will face judicial proceedings in Germany if extradition is approved. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that any further developments will be determined through legal processes.
