Microsoft Releases Powertoys 0.90.1 Hotfix to Address Key Issues

Fri 11th Apr, 2025

Microsoft has announced the release of a hotfix for Powertoys, updating the software to version 0.90.1. This update addresses various significant bugs that users have been encountering.

The developers at Microsoft provided a brief overview of the update, highlighting that the previous version, 0.90, faced issues when users attempted to install it using WinGet. If WinGet was not available on the user's system, the newly introduced 'Command Palette' feature failed to launch correctly.

Additionally, the Command Palette experienced crashes when executed with administrative privileges. Another concern involved the Command Palette attempting to install software dependencies unnecessarily, even when those dependencies were already satisfied.

To mitigate these problems, the .NET package included within Powertoys has been upgraded to version 9.0.4. Users can easily install this update to prevent the aforementioned issues from affecting their systems. Within the Powertoys application, users can navigate to the 'General' tab under 'Version and Updates' and click on 'Check for Updates' to search for and install available updates.

Users can also find updated installation packages on the Powertoys GitHub project page. The available packages include:

  • Powertoys 0.90.1 (x64, system-wide installation)
  • Powertoys 0.90.1 (ARM64, system-wide installation)
  • Powertoys 0.90.1 (x64, user installation)
  • Powertoys 0.90.1 (ARM64, user installation)

Last week, Microsoft had also rolled out version 0.90 of Powertoys, which introduced the 'Command Palette' as a new feature alongside several bug fixes aimed at improving user experience.
