MDR Concludes 'Polizeiruf 110' Series from Halle

Tue 28th Jan, 2025

The Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) has announced the conclusion of its 'Polizeiruf 110' series set in Halle after just three episodes. This decision aligns with the original intent of the series creators, who designed the storyline as a trilogy, culminating with the third installment set to air in 2026.

The crime series features detectives Henry Koitzsch and Michael Lehmann, portrayed by actors Peter Kurth and Peter Schneider, respectively. These characters debuted in 2021 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 'Polizeiruf 110' franchise. The scripts were crafted by notable Leipzig author Clemens Meyer, with direction handled by Thomas Stuber. The final episode, titled 'Der Schlüsselmacher', is scheduled to be filmed later this year.

In addition to the Halle series, the MDR continues to produce other regional crime dramas, including the 'Polizeiruf' series from Magdeburg and a 'Tatort' series from Dresden. New episodes of the regional crime dramas 'Wolfsland' from Görlitz and 'Tod am Rennsteig' from Thüringen are set to premiere in February and March, respectively.

Beyond fictional narratives, the MDR is planning to highlight significant historical anniversaries in 2025, such as the 35th anniversary of German reunification, the 500th anniversary of the Peasants' War, and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

A key focus for the MDR is enhancing engagement with its audience. The network aims to involve viewers in the content development process, encouraging them to share stories and perspectives that have yet to be explored in programming.
