Mayors barn burns down

Sat 17th Apr, 2010

Eching. The fire brigade were called out on saturday to tackle a blazing barn fire at the mayor of Eching's house. The mayor, Josef Riemenberger, called the fire department as soon as he noticed the smoke.

It is suspected that the fire was set on purpose, there was a party the previous evening in an adjacent building, called "Riemensbergerhalle".
The firemen could not prevent the building from burning down, however the flames were restricted to the mayor's property; no neighbouring buildings were damaged. The smoke cloud was larger than expected and visible from quite a distance. It was concluded that the size of the fire, and the speed at which it spread was due to the large volume of old hay stored inside the barn.

Nobody sustained any injuries and the damage to the property has not yet been established.
