Massive S-Bahn Delays

Although the disruptions of the S-Bahn from Wednesday have been sorted, there are further delays and occasional cancellations today. In addition, the rush hour services on lines S2 and S3 are affected. The S1 line, direction Freising/Airport, is back on track and stops at all stations.

The S -Bahn in Munich had a major technical breakdown on Wednesday morning and when the situation was just beginning to normalize, another issue occurred at Ostbahnhof.

Thousands of Munich citizens, including many schoolchildren have to squeeze into U-Bahn trains, trams and buses over the lunch hours. At the evening, when many commuters go home from work, the delays effects were still being felt.

A computer crash at 10:30 at Ostbahnhof led to the signal box failure on the whole S-Bahn line and thus caused total traffic chaos. This has led to numerous cancellations and delays.

Only after several attempts, the faulty computer was restarted by technicians after 3 p.m. and the S '€“Bahn trains gradually returned to the main line. But the delays dragged on up to the rush hour traffic. "We regret this very much and apologize to the passengers", said a spokesman for the railway.

We also had to take a Taxi from Laim at 8pm to the airport and made our flight with 2 minutes to go. The system was a shambles and not one member of staff to update passengers.

The S1 line was not running regularly even at 7:30 pm. Had to take a taxi to the airport from Moosach. Still major delays at 8:30 pm.
