Massive Fire at Farm: Cow Injures Man During Escape

Tue 15th Apr, 2025

A significant fire broke out on a farm in Helmbrechts, Bavaria, leading to chaotic scenes as livestock attempted to flee the flames. The incident occurred in Almbranz, located in the Hof district, where a large blaze erupted in the afternoon, sending towering flames from the barn that reached heights of up to 20 meters, according to eyewitnesses.

The fire quickly spread to several animal enclosures, prompting about 15 cattle to flee in panic. In the midst of the chaos, a cow charged and struck a local man who was attempting to wrangle the frightened animal. The man sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment.

Authorities reported that as of the evening, some of the cattle had not yet been recaptured. To assist in locating the escapees, police deployed a drone, enhancing their search efforts.

Fortunately, the remaining livestock were rescued, largely thanks to the swift response from neighboring farmers who provided essential support in transporting the animals and offering them temporary shelter. This community effort proved vital in mitigating the impact of the disaster.

The fire originated in the farm's barn, which was completely consumed by the flames despite the rapid response from firefighting teams. Approximately 180 firefighters were deployed to combat the blaze and managed to prevent it from spreading to the main residence. Tragically, during the firefighting operations, two female firefighters sustained minor injuries and received on-site medical attention.

Initial assessments estimate the financial damage from the fire to be in the mid-six-figure range. The Hof criminal police have commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.
