Martin Krasney has been appointed as a member of the board at the GKV-Spitzenverband, succeeding Gernot Kiefer, who has retired. Krasney, who is 55 years old and holds a doctorate in law, previously served as the head of the legal department at GKV-Spitzenverband from its inception in 2008 until the summer of 2024.
In November 2024, the supervisory board of the GKV-Spitzenverband made significant changes to its executive leadership structure, electing Krasney to the board. His extensive background in social insurance law and deep understanding of the healthcare sector are expected to greatly enhance the organization's efforts.
Before this role, Krasney was a partner and attorney at Dierks+Company, providing strategic and legal consulting. His career also includes positions as a legal advisor for the BKK Bundesverband and various law firms, where he gained valuable expertise in health law.
Upon his appointment, Krasney highlighted the considerable challenges facing the healthcare system, particularly regarding the financial sustainability of statutory health and long-term care insurance. He emphasized the necessity of ensuring that contribution funds from both insured individuals and employers are dedicated solely to the essential functions and services of the statutory health and long-term care insurance systems. This, he believes, is crucial for maintaining high-quality and efficient healthcare for all insured individuals.
Krasney also stressed the importance of advancing the much-needed digitalization within the healthcare sector. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with his colleagues to tackle these pressing issues and develop sustainable solutions for the future.
In addition to Krasney's appointment, Oliver Blatt was also elected to the board in November 2024, set to assume the role of chairman on July 1, 2025, when Doris Pfeiffer retires.
As of July 1, 2025, the GKV-Spitzenverband will be led by a three-member board consisting of Oliver Blatt as chairman, Stefanie Stoff-Ahnis as deputy chair, and Martin Krasney as a board member.
