Wildenfels (Saxony) - A serious accident occurred on the A72 near Zwickau this morning, transforming the roadway into a scene of wreckage. A transporter collided with a stationary truck, which had reportedly run out of fuel.

The incident was reported shortly after 6 AM. For reasons still under investigation, a Volvo transporter crashed into the truck parked on the shoulder of the highway without any apparent braking. The force of the impact was so severe that the front of the Volvo was crushed.

The driver of the transporter survived the accident but sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders and firefighters worked to rescue the injured driver, who was subsequently transported to a hospital.

According to preliminary reports, the truck driver was unharmed. At the time of the collision, he was not inside the vehicle but was walking to a nearby gas station carrying two canisters. Authorities confirmed that the truck had run out of fuel, which necessitated the trip to refill.

The A72 heading towards Leipzig is currently closed to traffic as extensive rescue and recovery operations are underway. Police have reported significant traffic delays, with motorists advised to seek alternative routes around the affected section between Zwickau-Ost and Hartenstein.
