Man Severely Injured in Knife Attack in Essen

Essen, Germany - A 29-year-old man from Duisburg sustained life-threatening injuries during a violent altercation on January 30. The incident occurred at approximately 7:25 PM on Sandstraße, situated between Schreinerstraße and Eppinghofer Straße.

The confrontation began as a verbal dispute with an unidentified individual, who allegedly attacked the victim with a knife before fleeing the scene accompanied by another person.

Shortly after the attack, a police patrol discovered the injured man at the intersection of Sandstraße and Eppinghofer Straße. Officers provided immediate first aid until emergency medical services arrived. The victim received treatment on-site from paramedics and an emergency physician before being transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

The suspect is described as a male aged between 16 and 18 years, standing approximately 165 to 175 cm tall, with a slim build and dark short hair. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket. Despite immediate efforts to locate the assailant, the initial search yielded no results.

In response to the serious nature of the incident, the local criminal police secured evidence from the scene, and a homicide investigation unit has been established under the jurisdiction of the Duisburg public prosecutor's office.
