Fri 10th Oct, 2025

The holiday season in the United Kingdom is set to feature dazzling displays as King Charles III prepares his royal residences for Christmas 2025. Beginning in late November, the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland and Windsor Castle will showcase elaborate seasonal decorations, offering the public a glimpse into the festive traditions of the British monarchy.

At the Palace of Holyroodhouse, preparations commence on November 20, transforming the historic halls with grand Christmas trees and ornamental arrangements. The throne room will be adorned with trees exceeding three meters in height, while a striking Nordmann fir, standing over four meters tall, will serve as the centerpiece of the Great Gallery. Visitors can experience a visual feast of meticulously crafted wreaths, ornate garlands, and a banquet table set for the season.

Special events will be held throughout December, including evenings dedicated to Christmas carols and creative workshops tailored for families. These activities are designed to immerse attendees in traditional celebrations, appealing to both royal enthusiasts and visitors seeking a unique holiday experience.

Windsor Castle, another iconic royal residence, will also be transformed for the Christmas period. From November 27 through January 5, a majestic seven-meter Nordmann fir, sourced directly from Windsor Great Park, will dominate St George's Hall. The tree will be decorated with intricate ornaments, contributing to the castle's festive atmosphere. Additionally, a five-meter Christmas tree will decorate the crimson reception room, creating a vibrant and welcoming environment for guests.

Throughout the holiday season, younger visitors can participate in arts and crafts sessions, where they can produce personalized Christmas mementos. These interactive activities are part of a broader initiative to engage families and provide educational insights into royal traditions.

The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace will debut a Christmas shop set within a fairytale-inspired setting for the first time. This pop-up store will offer a curated selection of seasonal products from the Royal Collection Trust, including elegant gifts and festive decorations. The shop aims to provide exclusive access to royal-themed merchandise in a magical, winter-themed environment.

The royal household's approach to Christmas 2025 underscores a commitment to both tradition and public engagement. By opening the doors of their residences, the royal family enables visitors to witness the grandeur of their holiday preparations. The combination of stately decorations, family-friendly events, and exclusive shopping opportunities is expected to attract a wide range of visitors, further solidifying these historic locations as central to the United Kingdom's festive celebrations.

While the royal festivities will be enjoyed by the family and the public alike, it has been noted that some family members will not participate in this year's celebrations. Nonetheless, the focus remains on sharing the spirit of the holidays with all visitors, as the royal palaces transform into illuminated landmarks celebrating the season.
