Kempten Hosts Social Christmas Market for a Worthy Cause
On the Saturday before the first Advent, Kempten's August-Fischer-Platz transformed into a festive hub for the annual Social Christmas Market. This cherished tradition, which dates back to 1975, brings together various community groups, schools, and social organizations to showcase and sell handmade goods, with proceeds supporting diverse social initiatives and youth programs in Kempten.
This year, the market featured 15 stalls, each offering an array of unique items such as Christmas cards, handcrafted ornaments, jams, and more. One of the vendors, an enthusiastic volunteer from the organization Herzenswünsche Allgäu e. V., shared that all items sold at their stall had been crafted by dedicated volunteers. The organization focuses on fulfilling the heartfelt wishes of children facing serious health challenges, making their participation in the market particularly meaningful.
Attendees were welcomed by the sound of the St. Mang Church's brass choir, setting a warm and festive tone for the day. For six hours, visitors had the opportunity to browse through a rich selection of products, including upcycled home decor and seasonal treats. Each stall was staffed by representatives eager to discuss their respective organizations and the positive impact of their work within the community.
Food and beverages were also available, with popular offerings such as punch, waffles, and chili provided by the Bonito catering stand. Additionally, the Adventjugend Kempten invited guests to enjoy a traditional campfire experience, where young visitors could participate in making their own bread-on-a-stick, adding to the communal and festive atmosphere of the market.
