Katy Karrenbauer's Hypnosis Journey: Overcoming Smoking Addiction

Sat 8th Mar, 2025

Katy Karrenbauer, a well-known actress, has made headlines after successfully quitting smoking through hypnosis. Following a medical emergency, Karrenbauer sought this alternative therapy to help her break free from her smoking habit.

The actress, now 62, revealed that she was initially skeptical about the effectiveness of hypnosis. However, she experienced a significant shift in her mindset regarding smoking. Instead of feeling compelled to smoke, she found herself contemplating the choice to abstain.

Despite her success, Karrenbauer admits to still having an affinity for the scent of cigarettes, describing her lingering attraction as somewhat odd. She expressed her enjoyment of the smell, even playfully asking friends for a puff from time to time. Karrenbauer clarified that she does not view herself as a role model in this regard, as she identifies as a 'non-smoking smoker' who may always grapple with the appeal of smoking.

Last year, Karrenbauer suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA), colloquially known as a mini-stroke. Following this health scare, she underwent surgery and opted for hypnosis to assist in quitting smoking. Grateful for her recovery, she remarked that she is left with only two visible scars on her neck, which serve as a reminder of her health challenges.

In addition to her health journey, Karrenbauer is currently performing in a theatrical production titled "Sherlock Holmes: The Case of Moriarty," where she showcases her versatility by playing eight different roles, including an Irish bartender and a maid. The Berlin premiere of the play is scheduled for this Sunday at the Ernst-Reuter-Saal.
