Jérôme Boateng's Case Closed: Prosecutors Drop Charges Following Investigation

Wed 26th Mar, 2025

The prosecution in Munich has officially closed the case against former professional footballer Jérôme Boateng concerning allegations of bodily harm involving his former partner, Kasia L. The Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office determined that there was insufficient evidence to support the charges, stating that the proof required for a formal indictment could not be satisfactorily established.

Boateng, who has consistently denied the allegations, expressed relief over the decision to terminate the proceedings after five years of investigation. He stated that the conclusion acknowledged the falsity of the accusations against him.

The allegations against the 36-year-old included intentional bodily harm and coercion during a period from October 2019 to February 2021. It was claimed that Boateng assaulted Kasia L. in a hotel room in Munich in October 2019. Photographs of bruises purportedly taken by L. were communicated to Boateng's former partner, leading to the involvement of the authorities. Boateng had been previously convicted in the summer of 2024 for a separate incident of bodily harm occurring in the Caribbean in July 2018, resulting in a conditional sentence.

Throughout the investigation, Boateng maintained his innocence regarding Kasia L.'s allegations. In a police statement from February 2020, she reportedly admitted that her claims were fabricated out of anger after discovering Boateng's infidelity. She noted that she bruised easily and was not physically harmed by Boateng.

However, following Kasia L.'s tragic death in February 2021, the case was reopened due to new evidence suggesting that she may have suffered significant injuries at Boateng's hands shortly before her passing. Reports indicated that she had informed her mother about repeated assaults by Boateng, further complicating the narrative surrounding the original allegations.

Conflicting accounts emerged regarding the nature of her injuries, particularly concerning an alleged torn earlobe. Initially, she told her father it resulted from an incident with a pull, while she later attributed it to an assault by Boateng. Boateng contended that the injury occurred during a consensual interaction.

After a comprehensive review of all evidence, the prosecution concluded that no further investigative avenues were apparent. Despite a potential witness indicating she would provide testimony, she failed to appear for scheduled interviews and has since become unreachable.

Boateng's attorney welcomed the closure of the case, emphasizing that all investigative actions demonstrated his client's innocence. The attorney stated that the dismissal of charges further corroborated their position, reinforcing the notion that Boateng did not commit the alleged acts.
