Authorities in Gera are intensifying their efforts to locate a suspect following a shocking incident where a woman was doused with a flammable substance and set ablaze in a tram. The victim, a 46-year-old woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a medical facility via air ambulance.

The police have identified the woman's husband as the primary suspect and are actively searching for him. A police spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the attempted murder are ongoing. The suspect is described as wearing a black work jacket and a black cap, and authorities have warned that he may pose a danger to the public.

Fortunately, no other passengers were harmed during this violent act. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the assailant attacked the woman in the tram. Eyewitnesses reported that the tram driver quickly responded by using a fire extinguisher to help quell the flames.

After the attack, passengers pressed the emergency button, prompting the tram to stop, which allowed the suspect to flee in the direction of Gera-Langenberg. Police units were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident, establishing a significant presence as they began their investigation.

Authorities are still determining the exact nature of the flammable substance used in the attack, with initial reports suggesting it was gasoline. However, the investigation is ongoing to confirm this detail.

Support services have been offered to the tram passengers and the driver, who witnessed the traumatic event. The tram remained at the scene for forensic examination as investigators gathered evidence.
