An inquiry is underway following the death of a 63-year-old man during a police operation in Eichwalde, located southeast of Berlin. Initial assessments by the public prosecutor suggest that the man may have died from natural causes, though an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to confirm the cause of death.

The incident occurred on Sunday when police were called to the scene after the man allegedly stole a handbag and backpack from an 83-year-old woman. Reports indicate that he fled the crime scene on an electric scooter. As the victim called for assistance, a 42-year-old cyclist pursued the alleged thief.

According to police accounts, after being knocked down by the suspect, the cyclist continued the chase on foot. He managed to apprehend the man, who reportedly threatened him with a knife during the confrontation. However, during the police's attempt to restrain the suspect and apply handcuffs, they noticed that he had turned blue and unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.

The public prosecutor's office is now examining the circumstances surrounding the man's death, with officials stating that the evidence initially points toward a natural demise rather than foul play. The outcome of the autopsy will provide further clarity on the situation.
