Security Updates Address Vulnerabilities in Intel Software and Drivers

Thu 15th May, 2025

Intel has released a series of critical security updates aimed at addressing vulnerabilities found in various software and drivers, including network drivers and the Slim Bootloader. These updates are crucial for maintaining the security and stability of systems utilizing Intel hardware and software.

Cyber attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities to compromise systems that rely on Intel technology. Successful attacks could lead to Denial-of-Service (DoS) conditions, which typically result in system crashes and loss of functionality.

Administrators can find a comprehensive list of the affected software and vulnerable drivers on the Intel security website, along with information on the corresponding secured versions. Most of the identified vulnerabilities have been classified with a medium threat level. In many instances, attackers could escalate their user privileges following a successful breach, often requiring local access to the system.

For instance, two vulnerabilities identified in the RealSense SDK (CVE-2025-20095 and CVE-2025-20043) could potentially allow local attackers to gain elevated rights. Specific details regarding the potential methods of attack remain unclear, and as of now, there are no reported incidents of these attacks being actively exploited. However, it is recommended that system administrators apply the patches promptly to mitigate any risks.

Additionally, there are several vulnerabilities categorized as high risk, particularly within the Slim Bootloader (CVE-2025-20083), which allow local attackers to enhance their privileges. There are also two vulnerabilities in the PROSet/Wireless WiFi software for Windows that could serve as entry points for DoS attacks.

Moreover, the latest updates have also addressed recently discovered CPU vulnerabilities that could enable attackers to extract sensitive information such as passwords.
