Thu 20th Feb, 2025

In recent developments, the number of individuals donating money in Berlin and Brandenburg has shown a slight increase. According to the annual report from the German Donation Council (Deutscher Spendenrat e.V.), the total count of contributors reached approximately 1.2 million in 2024, up from 1.1 million in the previous year.

Additionally, the average donation amount has risen modestly from EUR36 to EUR38. However, this figure still falls below the national average of EUR43. Cumulatively, donations in these two federal states amounted to EUR276 million in 2024, representing a growth of around 1% from the EUR273 million recorded in 2023. On average, each donor contributed six times throughout the year.

Across Germany as a whole, total donations in 2024 reached EUR5.1 billion, reflecting a 2% increase compared to the prior year. These findings are based on a survey conducted by the market and opinion research institute Yougov, commissioned by the German Donation Council.

This upward trend in donations signifies a growing willingness among the public to support various causes. Even though the average contribution remains lower than the national benchmark, the increase in both donor numbers and total donation sums indicates a positive shift towards charitable giving in the region.

As the landscape of charitable donations continues to evolve, the slight increases in Berlin and Brandenburg may suggest a broader trend of enhanced philanthropic engagement among residents, highlighting the importance of community support during times of need.
