Divorce is a painful experience, and it appears that even among monogamous species like the little penguins, scientifically known as Eudyptula minor, not every relationship lasts forever. A recent study involving an international team of researchers from Australia, New Zealand, and Germany has revealed that the consequences of these separations extend beyond the individual couples and affect the entire colony.

The research focused on a colony of approximately 30,000 little penguins located on Phillip Island in Australia.
