Harrison Ford Cancels Oscar Appearance Due to Illness

Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, renowned for his iconic roles in the 'Star Wars' and 'Indiana Jones' franchises, has announced his withdrawal from participating in the Academy Awards due to health concerns. His representative confirmed that the 82-year-old actor has been diagnosed with shingles, forcing him to cancel his scheduled appearance at the prestigious event.

Ford's illness was reported to have been diagnosed just a day before the ceremony, which is set to celebrate the best in film during its 97th edition. Just a week prior, he was seen attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, making this sudden change in events particularly notable.

In recent weeks, the Academy had announced a roster of celebrities expected to assist in presenting awards during the ceremony, with Ford among them. Other notable figures included Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Halle Berry, Goldie Hawn, Oprah Winfrey, Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Robert Downey Jr., and Cillian Murphy.

Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which initially manifests as chickenpox in childhood. After recovery, the virus remains dormant in the nervous system and may reactivate later in life, resulting in shingles characterized by painful rashes and blisters.
