Ukraine Targets Outdated Military Equipment in Ongoing Conflict

The Hamas organization has reportedly handed over the remains of four individuals, believed to be hostages abducted from Israel. Among these individuals are two young children, with further verification of their identities pending.
According to reports, the transfer of the remains took place in the Gaza Strip and was facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which subsequently passed the bodies to the Israeli Defense Forces. The Israeli Prime Minister's office confirmed that the handover occurred within Gaza's borders.
As per claims made by Hamas and various Israeli media outlets, the deceased include a mother and her two minor children, all of whom reportedly hold German citizenship. The fourth body is said to be that of an older man. The identities of the deceased will be established at a forensic facility near Tel Aviv, with family members being notified of the results first.
In connection with an agreement with Hamas, Israel is expected to release all women and minors detained since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, who are not considered involved in combat against Israel.
The handover of the bodies was staged by Hamas in Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The organization had set up a stage for the event, attracting a crowd of onlookers alongside masked militants, as loud music played in the background.
Four black coffins were displayed on the stage, accompanied by imagery depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a vampire, juxtaposed with photos of the deceased hostages. The accompanying text accused Netanyahu and his military forces of responsibility for the deaths.
Prior to the loading of the coffins into ICRC vehicles, white screens were erected to obscure Hamas propaganda. The ICRC had previously called for a more dignified approach during the handover of remains.
During the subsequent transfer to the Israeli army, led by a military rabbi, the coffins were intended to be draped in blue and white Israeli flags. Outside the Gaza Strip, numerous Israelis waited in heavy rain for the arrival of the coffins.
The fate of three individuals--Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas--who were abducted during the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, remains uncertain. Video footage of their frightened mother and her two young sons during the kidnapping circulated widely.
The forensic examination may take some time, as the duration will depend on the condition of the remains, according to multiple media sources citing Israeli Health Minister Uriel Busso. The minister also emphasized Israel's intent to investigate the causes of death.
Hamas previously claimed that the three individuals were killed in Israeli airstrikes during the ongoing conflict. However, Israeli authorities have not confirmed their deaths, although there is considerable concern regarding their status.
Jarden Bibas, the father of the children, was released recently and expressed his sorrow, stating that his family had not returned to him. He lamented that as long as they remained in Gaza, his life felt dark.
In a related development, Hamas announced that an additional four bodies will be handed over next week. Furthermore, six more hostages are scheduled to be released on Saturday as part of the ongoing agreement between Israel and the militant group.
The ceasefire in the Gaza conflict, which began on January 19, has resulted in the release of 19 hostages by Hamas in several rounds. Additionally, five Thai nationals who were abducted from Israel have been freed independently from the agreement.
The multi-step deal between Israel and Hamas aims for the gradual release of a total of 33 hostages, including eight deceased individuals, in exchange for 1,904 Palestinian prisoners. The first phase of this agreement is set to conclude in approximately one and a half weeks, but reports suggest that substantial negotiations for the second phase have yet to commence.
The conflict was initially triggered by a coordinated attack by Hamas and other extremist factions on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities and the abduction of over 250 Israelis to Gaza. According to health authorities in Gaza, nearly 48,300 individuals, including many women and children, have died since the start of the conflict.
