New Features Introduced in Gmail App: Slider and AI Image Generator

Sat 26th Apr, 2025

The Gmail application for mobile devices has received significant updates from Google, enhancing the user experience with new functionalities. These updates include a slider feature for better navigation and an AI-powered image generator, although some functionalities are exclusive to paid users.

One of the standout additions is the slider, which allows users to adjust the display area of their email list and preview pane. This feature enables users to easily resize the interface by sliding the control left or right, allowing for more flexibility in managing their screen space. Users can even hide one of the two panes entirely, optimizing the view based on their preferences. This update is now available for all Android devices with large screens, including tablets and foldable phones. Google has confirmed that this functionality has been rolled out to all eligible users, and it is accessible to both Google Workspace and personal account holders.

In addition to the slider, users who subscribe to Gmail through Google Workspace or those who have opted for the Google One AI Premium plan can now access a new AI image generation tool powered by Google's Gemini technology. This innovative feature will appear in the sidebar and allows users to create, save, and insert generated images directly into their email drafts. The rollout of this capability is currently in progress for targeted Gmail users. It will also be available for those utilizing Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons, as well as subscribers of Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons.

Earlier in March, Google announced another artificial intelligence-based enhancement for Gmail--a revamped search function that employs AI to deliver more relevant search results, referred to as the 'most relevant' searches. Users will still have the option to switch between this new search mechanism and the traditional search function, offering flexibility in how they find their emails.

These updates reflect Google's commitment to continuously improving user experience within its applications, leveraging advanced AI technologies to streamline email management and enhance creativity in communications.
